Welcome to East Falls
Around the Block
East Falls
Taking its name from its location on the eastern banks of the Schuykill River, East Falls lies at the point where the elevation shifts from rocky hills to the lower-lying terrain of the city. The landmark Falls Bridge along Kelly Drive marks the entry to the neighborhood, and its picturesque views of the River are just one of its many attributes.
What to Expect
Young families and older generations mingle in this lively town on a hill.
Everything that the city has to offer is just minutes away from East Falls by car, train, or bike; but most of what you need can be found right here in your neighborhood. The neighborhood’s many hills give it much of its character, and neighbors can be seen enjoying one another’s company on any given temperate evening. Recently, Jefferson University and Drexel University College of Medicine have extended campus housing to the area, which adds another layer of energy and diversity to East Falls.
The Lifestyle
A haven for outdoor recreation amidst the buzz of local bars and restaurants.
Whether biking, jogging, walking, or hiking are your thing, East Falls is the perfect place to get moving. In addition to the renowned trails along Kelly Drive, the area boasts multiple gyms, recreation buildings, and a world-famous tennis center. Restaurants and bars are plentiful. Johnny Mananas is a neighborhood staple for margaritas, or go to the Falls Taproom for a craft beer. If a corner pub is more your speed, these abound as well, as do various cheesesteak and pizza spots, along with Indian, Thai, and other global fares.
The civic-minded will also find themselves right at home here, with year-round street fairs, an active Community Association, and multiple other volunteer opportunities.
Unexpected Appeal
The tranquility of the Schuykill meets a down to earth city feel.
Among East Falls’ claims to fame is that movie star Grace Kelly was born here, and Kelly Drive was named after her father, the Olympic rower and local politician John B.Kelly, Sr. Many of the textile and coal mills that defined Industrial Revolution era Philadelphia still remain, and have been adapted and reused. The wealth of Old Philadelphia seamlessly meets the working-class roots of the city in East Falls.
The Market
Homes of all shapes and sizes, from rowhouses to mansions.
With an impressive mix of old and new residential architecture, East Falls’ housing market has something for everyone. Thriving projects like former textile factory Sherman Mills, now a large complex of studio spaces, make the area a top destination for artists and craftspeople as well. A number of well regarded schools and community centers, along with churches and other places of worship, make East Falls ideal for growing families.
