A Chat with Paul from Flourtown Beverage

03/2/20

Holiday party season and shopping are in full swing! I just caught up with Paul to order beer for my upcoming celebrations and see what's new and interesting for gifting this year. Check out this short video to see what he has to say!

Describe your business

We are the local, neighborhood beer distributor. We carry all brands and types of beer by the case, 6 packs, 12 packs, and kegs. We pride ourselves on being friendly and knowledgeable.

What made you decide to open this business?

I have been running my other business which is data processing since 1991. I still do that but I have always wanted to be in a more customer-facing business. Beer is something I have always loved and having a local business in my neighborhood has always appealed to me. So 9 years ago I was able to partner in this business with Vince, the previous owner, and work with him until he was ready to retire. I've been running the business for the past 2 years and we have made a lot of changes to make our customers happy.

The burning question - How long has Chris Page been working at Flourtown Beverage?!

LOL - I am pretty sure they built the building around him! I would have to guess about 15 years. He is a great asset!

What do you like most about being an entrepreneur?

I like that you can get out what you put in. And even though between my two businesses I work all the time, the flexibility to be able to see all my kid's games is so important to me.

What has surprised you most when owning a business?

How much time it takes to put our orders together. Predicting what people are going to want to drink and in what quantities is an art form!

What is something most people don't know about the business?

WE DELIVER! And we can order anything available in Pennsylvania so give us a call on a Monday and we should be able to get it for you by the end of the week.

Do you see more people buying the same beer over and over again or more customers looking for new brands and variety packs?

We see a lot of both. Some regular customers buy their case of Bud like clockwork and other regular customers that come in and want to try whatever is new and different.

If you had to choose ONE beer - what would it be?

My desert island, the last beer on earth pick would have to be Victory Dirt Wolf - it's a double IPA, extra hoppy.

What do you love most about the neighborhood?

Simply put - It's home, It's a great place to raise a family, It's good people.

Where are your favorite places to go in the neighborhood?

Walking at Cisco Park and sharing a pint at Halligan's (the latter we are doing right now!)

Do you have any exciting plans for the future that you want customers to know about?

We hope to have more and more tastings and as always keep up with our customer's requests for new and different beers.
